Lectio Divina – “divine reading”
A centuries-old way of letting God’s Word move from your eyes to your heart through four unhurried steps: reading, meditating, praying, and resting.
First Reading | Ephesians 1:4 NLT
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Read this verse once, slowly. Don’t try to study it or figure it out. Just read it like you’d read a letter from someone who loves you. Let it land where it lands.
First Reading | Ephesians 1:4 NLT
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Before you do anything with this verse — just read it. One time, slowly, all the way through. No notes. No analysis. Just you and the words. Pay attention to what stirs in you.
First Reading | Ephesians 1:4 NLT
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Read this verse through once — and give yourself permission to just receive it. Not to understand it perfectly or feel something specific. Just to be in the presence of it. Notice what catches your attention.
Ephesians 1:4 NLT
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Before the mountains existed. Before the oceans were filled. Before there was a single star in the sky — God already loved you.
This wasn’t an afterthought. You weren’t an accident. Before the world even began, God chose you. On purpose. With intention.
And here’s the part that changes everything: He chose you to be “holy and without fault in his eyes.” Not in your eyes — in His. Which means the way you see yourself and the way God sees you are probably two very different things.
You may see all the ways you fall short. God sees someone He wanted before time began.
Ephesians 1:4 NLT
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
If God chose you before the foundation of the world, what does that say about your value? Write a few sentences to yourself as if you were hearing this truth for the very first time.
 Ephesians 1:4 NLT
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Sit quietly with your hands open in your lap. Imagine God looking at you the way this verse describes — chosen, wanted, without fault. Let that land. You don’t have to say anything back. Just receive.
